KEYNOTE PRESENTATION - Day 2

Joseph Paduda
Principal
Health Strategy Associates
Do you know what’s coming?
The world of workers’ comp is about to change.
National Health Care Expert and
Consultant Joseph Paduda will leverage his up-to-the-minute knowledge
of the American health care system to identify the macro factors
driving workers’ compensation medical costs. Many of these factors are
hidden even to industry experts. The session also examines the
potential impact of national health care reform.
The presentation highlights the effects of cost-shifting, hospital pricing policies, the uninsured, as well as Medicare and Medicaid pricing arrangements on comp. Pharmacy costs (growing at a rate of 10-12 percent a year) and pharmacy benefit management programs will be dissected. Mr. Paduda will unveil the cost-savings failures of “managed care” protocols, such as deeply discounted provider networks and obscure contracting relationships.
Joseph Paduda is the founder and principal of Health Strategy Associates, a workers’ compensation and managed care consultant serving insurers, self-insured employers, technology companies and managed care organizations.
Prior to becoming a consultant, Mr. Paduda served as vice president of MetraComp, a United HealthCare Company specializing in managed care for workers’ compensation. Former employers include Travelers Health Company, Liberty Mutual, and American International Healthcare of American International Group.
